Notes:
Most of the information for this presentation has been taken from the following sources:
The Dalrymple book provides a good explanation of the various age determinations that point to the Earth being about 4.5 billion years old. The book also reviews various schemes used to date the Earth before the advent of radiometric dating techniques. It is a definitive reference for the standard, old Earth position.
The Morris book outlines evidence in favor of the Earth and the universe being young. It is a definitive reference for the young Earth position.
The Humphreys book outlines a creationist cosmology (theory for the formation of the universe) that attempts to account for three issues that the "mature creation" young Earth viewpoint has problems with: 1) light from distant galaxies, 2) galactic red shifts, and 3) cosmic microwave background radiation. He also outlines how the days of creation in Genesis relate to events forming the universe. This theory is based on the ideas of general relativity theory, but with a starting assumption that the cosmos is bounded.
Additionally, some young Earth/universe evidences were taken from the "Creation/Evolution Encyclopedia" at http://www.pathlights.com.
