The Night of the Sedgewick Curse

Jim visits a health spa to get some papers signed by A. T. Redman. While leaving, he notices the bell ringing for Redman's room. He goes back up, to find Redman missing, and a little old woman in his place. He asks the clerk, who is different from the one he saw earlier, who tells him the woman had been in the room for six months. Jim grabs a pair of glasses and leaves. "Col. Doyle" (guess who) registers at the spa. Jim traces the glasses to Hiram Gilbert and finds him dead. While dying, Hiram manages to write the following in blood: "\|/". As he leaves, Jim hears a scream and sees a runaway cart. He stops the horse and takes the owner, Livinia Sedgewick, home. She invites him to dinner. He notices the family crest and accepts. While getting a massage, Artie learns that Redman had Lubbock's Distemper and that other people who had LD also disappeared from room 12. The clerk overhears and, after the masseur leaves, turns the steam up to "Lobster." Artie escapes and leaves in a huff after meeting the clerk.

Jim arrives at the Sedgewick House for dinner. The housekeeper, Jessica tries to deter Jim, but Livinia lets him in. While waiting for dinner, Jim meets Lavinia's "grandfather" and his doctor. A storm breaks out, so Jim is invited to stay for the night and shown to a room. Henry Pichot registers at the spa. He tells the clerk he has Lubbock's Distemper. The armoire in Jim's room moves and Jessica walks out of a secret passage. She tells Jim to leave or he will die. In the spa, Artie is drugged and passes out. The wall swings around and he is put into a harp case. After dinner, Jim returns to his room. He sits on the bed and three spears slide down to pierce where a body would be if someone was lying on it. Three men enter from the passage and Jim beats them up. Jim goes into the passage and finds Redman in a cell with two others. All three are old men. Jim is captured and thrown in a cell with Jessica. Dr. Maitlen enters and reveals his plan for creating eternal youth. He leaves and gas starts flooding the cell. Jim blows the lock and searches for Artie. Artie, strapped to a gurney, has woken up and watches as Dr. Maitlen fills a syringe with his experimental drug. Using ventriloquism, Artie gets Maitlen out of the room, empties the syringe and refills it with water. Maitlen returns and injects Artie. Jim enters and helps Artie get loose. Maitlen's goons enter and knock out Artie. Livinia enters with a gun. Maitlen notices that Artie hasn't aged. Livinia injects herself with the drug. Artie wakes up and tells her he switched the water. Livinia grows old. Dr. Maitlen tells Felix to give the gun to Jim.
